evilhippo: hippo (13 [writing])

It's my one and only day off this week. And by day off I really mean day I can afford to spend not studying or writing. For most of it, at least. Which means I get to spend today packing and deciding what gets shipped home and what goes in storage and everything. Right now, this is infinitely better than anything that involves actual mental processes, because mine are all broken. If you want to see what I've been up to, the image part of my Tolkien project (which, of course, I made infinitely more complicated and time-consuming than it needed to be) is up here. Yaaay image-editing!

So, if you didn't see my away message yesterday - basically I got up at 9:30 and set to work on the project. And fixing the images took longer than I expected. Then I had to scan two more, and the scanner was occupied and I went to get something to eat and the change machine's tray was filled with water, which both amused and disturbed me. Then for some reason I couldn't get the internet to let me send myself the image files after I had them scanned, and by then it was 3:45 and the project was due at five. So I rush-edited one of them and left the other out, then tried to start printing and the printer decided that it hated me and wouldn't print things in colour and failed everyt time, so at 4:30 I e-mailed my professor and gave her my sob story about technology rebelling against me. Luckily she took pity on me and sent me a very nice e-mail back, which cheered me up, and said I could turn it in before 9 this morning. And so I touched everything up and made everything look a bit better and turned it in. Hooray! So, that drama is over for now.

All right... I don't have much else to write about, so I think I'll go organize the stuff in my bedroom. I've still got laundry from a week ago that I haven't put away. I'm so lazy.

Guess what! I haven't done anything on my Sosc paper! I sat down this evening to work on it and was suddenly distracted by inspiration enough to motivate me on my Tolkien project (figures, don't it?). And oh my goodness! I am going to thank NaNoMango for this, just because it put the idea of comicking into my head recently. My final project is now going to be a graphic novel (pending professor approval, though I doubt they'll say no). But evilhippo, my dear, you cannot draw! To that, I say pah! I can draw minimalistically. And the lovely thing about my influences (Gankutsuou) is that I can get away with that, because it has to be minimalist to work! So, I present to you... my title page! That I am so freaking proud of!

The title page. Look! Seriously! Okay... only if you want to... )

I love that font! Really. dafont.com is offically awesome (and to think I only randomly heard of it when someone was trying to find a font to re-do the Eyeshield opening). Wee! I wonder what my professors will think of what probably boils down to one of the strangest styles ever. But it sort of works. Which is what baffles me. There are ten layers in that. Ten layers shouldn't work. But ah! Fonts! (No, I have not developed a slight obsession with fonts).

And, to prove that I'm not not-slacking off entirely, I've also got the fifth page of my pointless stick-figure official NaNoMango...thing. Page Five: The page about the phrase "Blow Up." (Also contains one Kimblee, that I semi-tried on).

BLOW UP! (Warning, contains badly written kanji) )

Okay, now that I'm done rambling on about my bizarre artistic achievements, I will go back to writing some sort of script for this "graphic novel" of mine so I can move on to worrying a bit more about my Sosc paper tomorrow afternoon. Yaay! At least I'm distracted by something productive.

So, a few days ago it was brought to my attention that it's NaNoManGo or something. Which also somehow caused [livejournal.com profile] sketchyheart to jump on the bandwagon. Which caused me to jump on the bandwagon, despite the fact that I can't draw (it's solidarity!). So, if you ever wanted to see what happens when a comic is influenced by Homestarrunner and Plato... I suppose you can read these (everything I draw that isn't a stick figure looks like Strong Sad!). Otherwise, and even if, you're going to be scared. Because I change style so many times you'll get whiplash. And the first four pages were done in pencil and left in pencil, which was mighty evil of me because the scans came out entirely too light. But anyway... I present to you something that I suppose I am now obligated to call Title Goes Here.

Page Two )

Page Three )

Page Four )

This comic comes with the [livejournal.com profile] sketchyheart "*dies giggling*best. comic. ever." seal of approval. Keep in mind this was followed rather quickly by a link to a Fuery x Gran icon, so take that as you will. Hehehe.

Goshdarnit, I jump on the bandwagon so easily.

What happens when evilhippo is very, very bored and finished her reading early? Well, it isn't usually this. And yes, I changed my handwriting from page to page. Since this has no logical explanation, I will dedicate it to [livejournal.com profile] chocolatemoose, in honour of her birthday.

The result of ULTIMATE BOREDOM )

Third page is the best, I think. They're also unnecessarily huge files if you click on them. I'm just happy I didn't have to dismantle the computer lab to get the scanner to work. Though I am disappointed that I didn't get to use my special Rescom-issued Unlocks Everything Computer-Related key.
