To Anyone Planning on Watching Torchwood: Children of Earth,
Don't, unless you want to be seriously depressed for the next forever.
This announcement brought to you commercial-free by: evilhippo.
(Let's not even get into the levels of boredom I reached this week that caused me to watch this thing, it is seriously the most depressing piece of television I have ever witnessed. Where Doctor Who is all "Human race triumphs despite its flaws!" this entire thing was "The human race has no redeeming qualities and even the stereotypical, universal Redeeming Qualities all lead to one thing: Death. Also children are very creepy and there is a giant alien menace in the sky that is very, very cranky and basically invincible and also possibly going through some kind of withdrawal-related oozing tantrums and the government is evil and hates everyone, especially Torchwood and children." All in all, I think perhaps Russel T. Davies is having some Issues and maybe someone should have some sort of consultation with him, to figure out why he hates everything. Or (and I don't recommend this option, because it frightens me personally, but it might help...) give him a hug or something. Also, I totally see why John Barrowman was unsecretly and unabashedly ticked about the whole thing. 'Punished' is right! My goodness, RTD, what did that show ever do to you?!)

...I've only seen up to Torchwood season 2 episode 1. ^_^;;

I'm not even sure I could spoil it properly if I wanted to. I mean, the whole thing is like a giant angry RTD-rant of some sort, where none of the characters are sympathetic (except for garden-variety auto-sympathy cards played in a couple of cases. One very blatant one). There aren't even any good explosions. (There's one explosion, and it'd be a good one if the reasoning behind it wasn't so DUMB. And argh the plotholes omg.)
You know, I should probably stop ranting, because I imagine at this point I've already talked you into watching it. But seriously... it is depressing. And not only in an "Aww, my favorite ship/character/set piece" sort of way you get from shows that build up to something like this, but a really nihilistic, writer-gone-mad "Wow, this man hates the government and apparently everyone else" way. Burning and salting the earth comes to mind, for what RTD did here.

I'm kind of over Russ T at this point. I'm glad he's leaving Dr. Who. He did really good things for the franchise, but he's really a kind of crap writer. The reason I haven't seen Torchwood season 2 is because season 1 was mostly rather horrible.
...This is very mysterious, though. I wonder what the fuck is wrong with him. I wonder if he's angry or bitter about something. ...Or maybe he's just crazy. *shrug*

I'm torn between declaring that he wants to take everything down with him as he leaves (which is scary, in terms of the rest of the Doctor Who specials coming up. He could easily make Ten's passing just as depressing, and I do remember him saying something like he'd be leaving Moffat a 'clean slate'), and just being plain nuts/possessing a dangerously swollen ego and thinking that some sort of bombastic nihilistic (can those two words even go together?) swan song is even appropriate for a campy spin-off show that people (as far as I could tell) watched for fun.
In conclusion: I can't wait until Steven Moffat takes over.

Argh, I hope not. At the very least we know we can expect ridiculous deus ex machina and celebrity cameos. I know I will be rolling my eyes. I just hope I will be rolling my eyes, and also enjoying myself. ...I'm attempting to be emotionally neutral about the spoilers I've seen, as they could lead to much awesome or to much argh... I guess we'll see when we open the box and look at the cat.
HEAR HEAR. ...I occasionally worry about his Doctor and his companion and the things I think he will do with the Doctor's daughter and River Song... but then I put my worries aside because HE'S A GOOD WRITER AND I TRUST HIM!! T_T

Yeah, not all of his episodes were complete crap. I mean, I usually have fun, even while I'm rolling my eyes. And Midnight was actually quite excellent. *crosses all fingers and toes... think braiding my hair will get me anywhere?*

NEW THREAD!!
Imagine: Ryuuk, as played by Gluttony. Light, as played by C!Envy. Misa-Misa, as played by T!Ed. L, as played by Hughes.
...DOESN'T IT JUST KIND OF WORK AMAZINGLY PERFECTLY?! :DDD

Re: NEW THREAD!!
It'd be really interesting to use the skeleton of an old rp to build something new, under the premise of some kind of time-travel. And anything that doesn't exist anymore can just be considered frozen in time... like this massive, suspended-animation ghost-city...
... I'm making myself want to resurrect things again, so I'd better stop now.

Hmmmmm, intriguing~....
Argh. I know. It's dangerous, isn't it? I keep reminiscing with omg!alchemist/fma people, and being like... we should start a new rp with the same characters! ...And then thinking that would be a really bad idea, because there's a reason it died in the first place, and digging it up again wouldn't last long. ...Although I could maybe see a brief, plotless, dressing-room type get-together or something, I dunno.... ARGH THIS IS BAD, WE SHOULD STOP.
...I am really excited about the game Lauren and I are going to try to start when she gets back from the woods, though. I hope we get players. I really want to inflict our evil plotting and scheming on people.
