You there, recommend something to me. I have two free songs on iTunes. I want something catchy-ish and preferably upbeat, technoish, or pretty. I don't particularly care who it's by. If I haven't heard of them, that's a plus, because then my playlist gets to become even more eclectic. Don't worry if it's overplayed, because I don't listen to the radio. Keep in mind that I found it quite strange to see My Chemical Romance and the Used covering Queen on the Music Store front page (and also, this week's free mp3 sort of scares me. 15 beers ago? wtf?) Aaand, now it's back to Monsieur de Tocqueville for me. I could've sworn I was farther along than this...

- franz ferdinand
- ben gibbard
- stars
- the shins
- ben lee
- metric
- john vanderslice
as those have been dominating my playlists of late.
lessee... i'll even recommend one song from each. it's tough to choose just one!
franz ferdinand: michael
ben gibbard: i was a kaleidoscope
stars: reunion
the shins: caring is creepy (if you don't already have it), or pink bullets (if you do have caring is creepy)
ben lee: aftertaste
metric: wet blanket
john vanderslice: time travel is lonely
OR, if you can find it, and you want to hear the catchiest tune EVER:
"dear sons and daughters of hungry ghosts" by wolf parade.
also excellent:
"blue diamonds" or "shapes" by the long winters.
there...ask for one, you get many! :)

I've also come to the conclusion that there are too many freaking artists named Ben. Wtf? I mean... I remember last year when Ben Folds came. And everyone was confused about who was opening. I'm pretty sure it was Ben Lee, but there was a rumour at the time that it was Ben Harper (because that'd be funny, what with our past president Willaim Rainey Harper and all). But I'm still not entirely sure it wasn't Ben Kweller. And now you've gone and thrown Ben Gibbard into this (though I know I would have remembered that. He covered his own song by himself, what? Or is the copy of I Was a Kaleidoscope mislabled as Death Cab and it was just him all along?)
Actually, now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure it was Ben Lee. Because he had these buttons that said "I <3 BL" (and I know it wasn't BK). And now thinking of that makes me laugh, because BL stands for Boy Love. (Freaking Japanese, corrputing people's initials!)
Conclusion: I am never going to figure out what to download (and I found a ton of John Vanderslice songs on epitonic, yay! So some progress has come of this).

i've come to the conclusion that all artists (heck, maybe all people!) named ben are automatically the cutest ever.
ben folds, ben gibbard, ben lee, and ben kweller just have the most adorable voices ever.
you know, i think that maybe the version that i have of "i was a kaleidoscope" might be a live one of him doing it solo, or something. i'm not sure. if you want a different one, "you remind me of home" is good.
have you heard the cover that he does of avril lavigne's "complicated"? i swear it makes me want to pinch his cheeks. or hug him. he'd probably prefer the latter.
i think it was ben folds, ben lee, and ben kweller who got together and recorded a few songs under the name "the bens". i only have one song, "bruised," and it's quite good.
i just recently discovered john vanderslice, but apparently he's fairly big-ish. in the underground way. :)

No, I haven't heard his cover of "Complicated." And unfortunately we get hit hard for actual filesharing here so... ::sigh:: no looking for it for me (not even Google recognizes Ben Gibbard as a solo entity!) You need to send me MP3s, darn it. Like Andy Stochansky's other album (which I might break down and buy at the end of the year anyway, if I have any money left). And this stuff you're teasing me with that I can't find. ::glare:: (-:
