All right, Vista. My entire external harddrive is read-only. WHY did you do this?

Even when I change the permissions... the ones you hid behind FIVE escalation requests, you just go and change it RIGHT BACK. Vista, I hate you. I hate you so, so much. I think you can expect the Linux partition to be eating up more of your space in the near future.

I'm declaring this my official day off this week. The rest of the week and on into next is going to be my last hurrah (and by hurrah I mean torture by UofC). I already spent most of the morning trying to sort out my living situation and finding a few more places to send my resume... and covering my new laptop in stickers. It's still a little unbalanced, but at least it's decorated now.

So now I'm going to sit here and muse about my TV fandoms, because I've had a few random comments itching at the back of my mind for a while now, and I should probably write them down.

So yeah... Heroes Finale... )
It seems like a lot of my problems lately are with pacing. Probably because that's what's on my mind right now, since I'm trying to figure it out for myself. And this is a sentence between these two so no one accidentally goes from one paragraph to the other and accidentally spoils themselves for something. Not that this week's Doctor Who really has much to spoil.

42 is, oddly, not the answer )

And because I am like a deranged doting parent when it comes to new electronics: Look at my adorable new laptop awww )

I would like to interrupt this slight drought in unnecessary spam about my computer with the following: YAAAY, UBUNTU IS WORKING IN CORRECT RESOLUTION NOW!! Things aren't blurry and stretched! Finally! (Let's hope this change sticks, otherwise I'll be very sad, because I have no idea why it worked this time and didn't the last fifty times I tried it.)

Yay, my eyes aren't bleeding! And now I'm going to bed so I can get up tomorrow and get to work on my mountain of homework and other writerly obligations. (And keep my fingers crossed about hearing back from potential employers... and possibly people who'll let me sublet. Freaking Chicago.)
Dear Internets,

Windows Vista is annoying. I am switching to Linux. (Maybe I should've gotten an Intel Mac... then I could teach it to boot into three operating systems! Two of which would be useless to me!). That is all.

P.S. I lied, that's not all. My new computer is here! And it's pretty and happy and omg I can't work it because Vista is evil and counter-intuitve (and I think I've already broken it... oops. Oh wait, it just takes like, five minutes to load... nevermind. Vista, you are stupid. Pretty, but stupid. Which is not how computers are meant to be!) Oh, and Vista? Your inability to update the antivirus is terrifying. Absolutely terrifying. I hope that someday you don't take eleventy billion years to load. Also, when I tell you to turn off, you turn off. Don't just pretend and then go to the login screen as soon as I turn you back on. Don't hide the option to restart where I can't find it on the first try!

In more positive news, even though the new Office is kind of cluttered and weird looking, it actually kind of looks like it might actually have some useful features.

I'm going to have to get used to the new keyboard, though. It's keys aren't as deep as mine are. Le sigh. Oh well. I'll live.

Yay, new computer!! (Yay, breaking in (mostly just breaking) my new computer!)

(Goshdarnit Vista let me remap the keys!)

P.P.S. I think I broke Ubuntu, too....

P.P.P.S. Oh, and Vista? Really, even if you think it's polite, you really don't need to ask me if it was me that changed your firewall settings, and if I meant to do it. I'm sure you felt me click. Of course it was me. Also, you seriously don't need to explain what a screen saver is. (It is cool and super-nice of you, though, to keep your system files on a separate partition from the user files. At least, it looks like that's what you've done. Thank you. I was going to do that anyway.)

P.P.P.P.S. Ha! I win! Finally got my display drivers working. Yaaaaay Ubuntu! I am never using Vista again!

Goshdarnit, paper, write yourself. I'm tired of you. I've barely even written two pages of you, and I'm tired of you. At least my outline looks plausible now, though. In that it might get me to seven pages, and I can BS at least another page out of the intro and conclusion... plus quotes and references to criticism that largely has nothing to do with what I have to say. Yay.

Also, I'm going to need to name my new computer soon. Hopefully today, maybe tomorrow. So far names from Beowulf have been haunting me for some reason, but suggestions are always awesome. You know, in case you have a computer name that you haven't been able to use (so I don't name my computer Hrunting or Hrothgar or something).
