Dramatis Personae:
Me
Muse1
Muse2

Setting:
Me is sitting at the computer. Muse1 and Muse2 sit on opposite sides of the computer, crosslegged unless otherwise. Muse1 is young, about 14-16 in a dark blue hooded-sweatshirt and blue jeans. The hood is over her head and face, making her look a bit foreboding, but when she speaks she is never totally serious. Muse2 is lateish 20s, tall, with long hair tied back. He is almost constantly serious but wears an easy smirk, making him look like he constantly knows exactly what is going on, and is amused by how everyone reacts to it.

Me: I want to write something.
Muse1: About time, you know? I haven't seen you in ages?
Muse2: And I can't even imagine the last time you visited me... It's been years.
Muse1: What, lonely? I don't think she's seen either of us in years.
Me: What should I write?
Muse2: Does it matter?
Me: I suppose not. It's been so long. I don't even know where to start.
Muse1: Oh, just start somewhere. Anyway.
Me: You mean like "It was a dark and stormy night..."?
Muse2: If you're not going to take this seriously I'm leaving.
Muse1: Oh come on.
Me: No, I think you're right. I can't be stupid about everything. I won't get anywhere with that. There isn't much new in satire besides a different point of view, non?
Muse2: Exactly.
Me: But you know me, I've never been much for setting and stuff. It's all about the plot. So it all ends up pretty barebones and stuff.
Muse2: Too informal, you mean?
Muse1: Yeah, you do need to get away from that. It takes away a whole lot sometimes, if you're trying to write something new. (I am going to miss the old stuff though, you know?)
Me: But serious gets taken seriously. I don't know if there's enough behind my writing to make it not seem totally shallow if I write seriously. Huh. I think that might be part of my problem.
Muse2: So, come up with a background then.
Muse1: You know it's not that easy! Maybe if you work from an existing background...
Me: Eww, but that's fanfiction.
Muse1: Don't sound disdainful, there's lots of good stuff out there. It wasn't below you before.
Me: No, I suppose not. But every last one of those involved making the characters extreme mockeries of themselves. Wow... I don't think I've ever written a totally serious character.
Muse2: Looks like you have some goals now, then. Serious, with background, and good characters.
Me: Right. Maybe I should write the background and characters out seperately.
Muse2: Whatever works for you.
Me: This is going to take forever. I guess I've got until midnight. I hate going to bed this early.

Stopping now... s'late.
