Okay, okay, yes... Fish Custard!

I'll admit, part of me is probably just giggly because it's new Doctor Who and also because I'm giving (and will give) Moffat forty times as much leeway with things as RTD (at least, for the first three episodes). Sure, I could argue niggly bits, but it was a solid start, and by far the best start to a season/introduction of a new companion that I've seen out of the show. I'm not sure how I feel about Amy, but at least she's exhibited some personality rather than being a stereotype with a personality kind of stuck on top with some chewed gum or something (I... erm... just let that one slide, okay?) Also, I knew that skirt was too short. Very clever there, Moffat. I hope she holds up to the stresses of time travel... I mean, I'm kind of tired of "companion has a crush on the Doctor" premises. It was kind of subverted for a bit (hehe invisible childhood friend), but I know that's where we're going, and... yeah. It's probably on that front that Moffat will lose his leeway with me.

Also! I am pleased to say that I didn't have an immediate "You're doing it wrong!" reaction to Matt Smith's Doctor. (I kind of did this with Tennant, but that was because I loved Eccleston's self-assured, distant sort of Doctor, and that clashed with Tennant's brash and often confused Doctor.) However, now I'm worried that Eleven is going to be too much like Ten. It's going to be very hard to play a manic sort of Doctor that wouldn't overlap. But we'll see. At the least, we've definitely got a very different atmosphere this time around. You can feel that the universe isn't in RTD's hands anymore.

... Also I'm kind of very amused that apparently tasting the age of objects wasn't canon before, but is now. Time Lord BS ftw!

I don't like the new theme, though. Actually, I'm not sure I like the new opening at all. But since that is pretty much my only major complaint, I'll take it.

(Ha! I think I did this without spoilers!)

... Waaaait a second, did he really say "Oh you sexy thing"? I can't have heard that right... I mean, "dear," I will accept. Even "love." But "Sexy"? Minus fifteen already, Moffat! (... Plus thirty, because deep down it's funny and, yes, I ship it.)

...I heard sort-of third hand that Moffat's going to avoid the romance thing with Amy Pond. HERE'S HOPING.

See, I found Eleven to be quite distinct from Ten. He seemed much less manic, and delivered his lines in a dry, tongue-in-cheek sort of way. It was different enough for me that I kind of missed manic!crazy!Doctor, but no complaints from me, really, because he's fabulous and adorable and I love him and OMG DID YOU SEE WHERE HE COMPLETELY AVOIDED BEING EMO.

Ahahahahahaha see, obviously you should write for Doctor Who.

I agree about the theme and opening, as far as I'm concerned "Oh you sexy thing" is 45 flavors of happy, and omg was the sonic screwdriver green and what do I think about that?! @_@

...You know what the best part is? WE GET ANOTHER EPISODE NEXT WEEK. AND THE WEEK AFTER THAT. AND AFTER THAT. TTT_TTT

I heard sort of third-hand that we're still gonna have to deal with her crushing on him, though. I think it all depends on what Moffat does with Rory. It'd be nice for a female character in a relationship to actually be able to stick with it for once, as opposed to like... Rose, and Donna, and Gwen, and... every other woman RTD wrote. (Notice how Moffat seems to be developing a theme of sticking pretty girls with weird, dorky guys? Amy and Rory have the same looks to them that Sally Sparrow and Larry did, I think.) Me, expecting Moffat to somehow magically fix all my issues with the way women are written in Doctor Who? ...maybe... And in the previews, obviously Rory ends up along for a bit. Maybe it's a double-date?

Oh, I found them distinct, but I worry that it could stray backwards. I mean, he was quoting Ten an awful lot. And he definitely had his manic!crazy moments (like the duck pond thing. And the food. I... actually felt bad for the Doctor, not liking bacon. That's a terrible disability.) But you're right, he's much drier and a bit more sarcastic. I rather like it. AND HE DID COMPLETELY AVOID BEING EMO. It's like he kept the kind of vengeful bit of Ten, but isn't all Lonely God about it. Like... maybe he's adjusting. He also swears 100% more, though. I don't recall the Doctor ever using the phrase "hell of a" before. But... new darker Doctor. ^_^ So long as it doesn't become hella. ("Must be one hella-scary crack in your wall, dude. Kid. ...Dude.")

Man what would they even do with an American writer? They'd have to hire someone to weed all the regionalisms out of my writing. Maybe I can get RTD to hire me for the new American Torchwood series, though. That's gonna be spectacular (because it'd be hard to make Torchwood worse, and about the only way you could do it would be to have a writer like RTD trying to make it sound American. I'm so looking forward to it. I'm going to be severely disappointed if it's not a train wreck. Also, now, if no one says "hella").

What... what if we get development of the Doctor's relationship with the TARDIS instead of companion relationship angst? Wouldn't that be amazing! (Just... so long as we don't get a personified TARDIS ever. I am generally not happy with those. With the exception of Brigadier!TARDIS in one of the audio plays, but that was also Evil!TARDIS, and that makes everything okay.)

Also there are no pictures of the new TARDIS interior. How is that possible? And I didn't know the TARDIS could make a sonic screwdriver. This... opens up so many possibilities. ::evil grin::

It feels like it's been so long since there've been regular new episodes. I don't think I'm going to know what to do with myself next week when there's another one. And then after that...
