Today after work, when I walked out onto my back porch to observe my kingdom array of potted plants, I couldn't stop the gleeful shout of "Beans!" before it escaped my lips. This morning, there were no beans. This afternoon, there were five.

Beans! Yay, beans!

IF ONLY GETTING MY MANDOLIN WORKED THAT WAY.

Oh, but there are so many possibilities. I would have one for every day of the work week! I could give them to people I particularly like. Or I could start a mandolin orchestra with only myself... Or the five of them could help me raise a little sister (http://www.avenuenguitars.com/store.php?orderbyVar=pro_id&typeVar=0&catVar=16&pro_id=228&search_str=). (Freaking... why do I want a ukulele now too? Curse you Beirut! Also, curse you, cute asymmetrically-faced instrument.)

And even it it turned out to be bizarre and unnatural to have five mandolins, I suspect it would be better than having none.

Maybe you could build a fort and use four of the mandolins as supports, and then sit in the fort and play the fifth one. And rotate the mandolins so they don't feel left out.

N'awww, baby ukelele. :)

Oooh, that'd be beautiful. If only I were a little smaller. Perhaps I'll get an upright bass, a cello, a tuba, and a contrabassoon for the fort... and set it up on a street corner somewhere to entertain tourists and pedestrians.

That's a good idea. Just make sure you have a chair on hand in case anyone wants to play the cello.

Of course!

...I really want to see a band arrange their instruments in a fort now, and play them that way. Aw man. I need a band for so many things.

OOH OOH! Were these the beans I sent or some other ones? THEY GROW SO FAST, IT'S AWESOME! :DDD

The ones I'm growing upside down are all fun and twisty.

Two of them are the giant, alien-pod-looking beans you sent. The other three are some heirloom beans (which I didn't know existed) that I picked up at a rather pretentious garden store here. (-: I think I may transplant one or two of them into one of my hanging baskets and grow it upside down, just because I want to grow something upside down, and I don't think I can hang the baskets high enough for tomatoes.

Hahaha the giant alien pods? The purple ones, right? Those are scarlet runner beans, and they supposedly have these huge, amazing red flowers that attract humming birds and stuff. And possibly spawn aliens, yeah.

I wonder if there are any hummingbirds to attract around here... If yell when I see beans, I fear what I might do if I find a hummingbird. Or an alien. (-;

I should probably start planning for climbing things. My poor first set of peas just has a haphazardly crocheted net that I only finished about a third of before I got lazy.

I don't know what there are in the way of hummingbirds in Chicago...

I just sort of keep pinning up twine. The best kind is the really fibrous, course stuff, so the vines can grab it, I think. I HAVE BEAN FLOWERS!!!! And I ate my first pea today. It was seriously the best pea I've ever eaten. PEAS! :DDD My zucchini is flowering, along with the yellow bell pepper plant, which is wtf since it's so small, and a few of the tomato bushes are flowering, too. It's all very exciting. We're also beginning to get some flowers, and my clematis vine looks like it's about to explode.

EEEEEEE!!!!
