I'm starting to wonder if I'm speaking a different language today. I keep saying what I think are completely reasonable things and getting Billy Bob Thornton-type responses from people. And it's been happening all day, from at least five different people, most of whom were not borrowers or employees of CitiBank (because I'm used to them speaking nonsense). I haven't even been unusually obtuse or evasive today! (And I do have those days.)

I am speaking English today, right? ... Right? Based on my experience, I may still be asleep and just having an extremely dull dream.

Oui, c'est très étrange! ...That... is quite baffling.

And wow, Billy Bob, what a douche! ...That's almost as awkward as Joaquin Phoenix on The David Letterman Show... and it only falls short of that because his bandmates were there to take up the slack.

Yeah, I felt really bad for his band members. I suspect they may have been actual musicians. Whereas, any drummer, no matter what caliber, should not ever show up for a performance without his kit. I mean, really. At least beat your sticks on the table. That's what drummers do. They make noise! And what is with actors-turned musicians giving totally terrible interviews?

However, next time someone asks me a question I don't want to answer, I think I'll start telling them about some magazine I used to read... though I can't think of any contests I entered. Maybe I'll tell someone about my (unsuccessful) quest to get on Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
