Soooo... you know, I was going to try to puzzle out what the heck BSG is up to, now that I've watched the most recent episode. And then I found out that the writers are, in fact, really just winging it, and so now I'm just kind of wondering what I've gotten myself into by being so smitten with this show. It's like a giant mobile literary self-analysis machine.
I kind of like the idea of the 13th tribe being Cylons. And Chief in glasses? Hehehe, awww. I mean, Hipster!Lit!Prof Chief just seemed incredibly weird to me, but whatever. I'm not big on the whole "put glasses on him so he's different" thing, but it was still amusing. The way everyone else was kind of blurred out makes me wonder whether the 13th tribe was really secretly diverse, or if it was really made up of 5, 12, or 13 Cylon models (what's with there being no number 7? That's way too obvious not to be tied up or lampshaded before we're done with this). Obviously, if we weren't meant to be wondering this, they would've bothered to show other people. I dunno how I feel about Ellen, though. I mean, on one hand she was up there with Anders on my "Definitely A Cylon" list, but... at this point there seems to be so little significance to it. I'm incredibly happy that Starbuck isn't technically a Cylon, though. Even if she is the harbinger of death (I was hoping we'd finished with that whole prophecy when she led to the end of Cylon resurrection. That was a much cooler interpretation of it, as far as I'm concerned. Harbinger of true death and all. Rather than "you're all doomed". We get enough "you're all doomed" from everything else.)
My personal theory is that the final five are all actually human, in some way or another. If nothing else, I swear to you all that Tory is actually human. She took to being a Cylon like a duck takes to water, and that... her reaction to the whole thing was just so thoroughly human I believe something is actually up there.
Also few offhand notes:
Laura Roslin needs a new plotline like, now. I don't like depressed, disenfranchised Laura. I hope in that book the only bit that doesn't burn is the bit where it says "promised land" and not "Earth".
I never really liked Dee, but, um... what? Seriously what. Did they just get tired of the character? Are they honestly being that heavy-handed about getting her out of the way so Lee and Kara can get back together in some kind of twisted, mind-frak relationship? No. Just, no. If this leads to more Kara/Lee, I'm going to be very upset. I already want to kick both of them in the face, so no. Just no. Cally's gratuitous death was bad enough.
Also (I never thought I'd say this)... Needs More Baltar.
