My resolve is rather seriously weakened right now. Not for any particular reason, really, other than the fact that it's getting sort of springlike out, so there's sunshine and positivity. And my tax refund and my bank job payoff and soon it'll be warm enough for me to go eat in Milennium Park, so I won't be spending money on lunch just so I don't have to eat lunch in my office... so I'm having a really hard time not buying a DS like... now. I was going to hold out until the end of the month, but I don't know if I will be able to. It'd be the first thing I've bought in ages that was over $20 that I didn't need, which is probably why I've been so slow about it in the first place. That... and I don't know which color to get (the only one I've ruled out is red).

And, most importantly, I have no idea what game(s) to get to start off with. I mean, it'd be easy if the first Phoenix Wright game was possible for me to find through reasonable means. I have a few games I'm curious about, but... recommendations are good. I've been out of the loop for so long, I don't know these things anymore! RPGs, puzzle games, platformers... whatever (just... no FPS. FPS and I just don't get along.)

Well. My number one suggestion is for being a pirate, so, that's really up in the air of whether or not you want to be a pirate. (yarrr.) If yes, I'd suggest an r4. They are shiny and grand (and you can play both Ouendans + other games for... roughly the price of both Ouendans.)

Otherwise... The Phoenix Wrights are good if you can find them, yes. Pokemon is actually rather fun, and I've heard mixed things on the Zelda game. Hotel Dusk was fun :D

Hmmm.... yaaaaaar. I had forgotten about Ouendan. I think, perhaps, piracy would be something I'd go for once I had at least one or two legit games, though, just so I could feel less... evil. (-;

Pokemon is a dangerous thing. If I start playing it, I'll... I'll be betraying something. I don't remember what something that is, but I'm sure I'd be betraying it.

Hehehe. :3 That's sort of a good plan~ I follow that plan too.

And pffft. If you got pokemon, you could show people your pokeymans. And we could have really crappy, dorky voice chat through our games. And... and... Pokeymans. XD

ALSOALSO. Which roommate of yours was the one with the gamecube? Because I can lend you Twilight Princess if you'd like and still have a gamecube around. :4

But the only people I can show my pokemans to are Dar, and the people on the bus. I don't think they'd appreciate my pokemans. (Maybe I could share my pokemans with the people at work instead...)

Woo, crappy dorky voice chat! That's... actually a tempting reason. But, which pokemon game?

Actually, I can see the gamecube from here. Mmm, Twilight Princess. Dar is also very enthusiastic, even if we both think it'd be more fun if we had a Wii.

Um, Mario, hello!

And Zelda I suppose. I'm not sure how you feel about Zelda games, though.

And get the pink one, silly! The pink one!

From: [identity profile] evilhippo.livejournal.com

So. many. Mario. games. And I have no idea which are worth it (because there have been some not-worth-it ones). I don't much like the new Zelda games, from what I've seen of them (other than Twilight Princess, which I still need to play somehow. Like, if I ever get a Wii.)

But... I can't get a skin for the pink one as easily. It'd just have to be naked all the time. And, well... even though I've been tempted by the pink one, I don't know how I feel about a long-term investment in a pink game system. (-;

You need Pokemon. You are not cool until you own Pokemon games. I want a DS just for the new Pokemon games. Lame on me.

From: [identity profile] evilhippo.livejournal.com

But... but... then I'd have to be all "My pokemans, let me show you them" and people on the bus would be all "No wai!" and I'd be all "um, why do I have pokemans?" I wouldn't know what to do with pokemans, if I had them. But this makes two votes for Pokemon and... hmmm. I think I'd be betraying a part of me if I got it, though. I'd feel like such a poseur. I mean, I can name like, three Pokemon. Or maybe five. Also, I'm not sure I could live with myself if I knew more than five. It might be on the same level as me knowing more than two Backstreet Boys, or more than one Gundam pilot.

IT'S REALLY EASY TO LIVE WITH YOURSELF WHEN YOU KNOW MORE THAN FIVE POKEMONS. OR WHEN YOU KNOW ALL THE BACKSTREET BOYS AND REDOWNLOAD THEIR MUSIC WHAT.

LOOK AT ITS LITTLE FACE. D'AWWW.

Ahhh, the terrifying cute! (I actually pulled a Pokemon out of my bag tonight and waved it at people. But it's the random one I bought at Mitsuwa when you were here last year, that lived on my dinosaur for a long time. (-;)

You scare me. ♥

Mudkip is the only important Pokemon. Everyone lieks him.

Well, the black and white ones are best if you want to get a skin. (Incidentally, I adore the skin I got from DecalGirl.) If not, I'm completely turned off by the two-tone systems, but I can't deny that the black-and-blue one is pretty. And if you're in the market for carrying cases, the one I've got looks like a tiny bowling ball bag and it is sooooo cuuuuute.

As for games, your chances of finding the first two Phoenix Wright games used are actually pretty good. I found the first one the first place I looked back in September. A friend who got her DS for Christmas found the second one without trouble. The third and fourth ones should be easy to come by, although, of course, I would not recommend playing them before the first two.

The games I own besides Phoenix Wright are, in reverse order of my opinion of them: Geometry Wars (excellent reviews, but just not my thing, I don't think), Super Mario 64 DS (good game, but not the kind of thing I want to play on the DS), the Brain Age games (good stuff; the second one's better), Prism (I love it so much, but I don't know how easy it is to come by anymore), and Professor Layton (you NEED to get this game, seriously for reals, and any store that sells video games will have it).

I like your mood icon for this post. 8D

I was actually looking at the DecalGirl skins again last night. I'm leaning more towards getting one that I can skin, just because that'd make it more interesting (and, though it makes me feel a bit like a sheep, I rather like the old-school (http://www.decalgirl.com/browse.cfm/4,4194.htm) skin). Otherwise, I'd probably be getting the cobalt and black one, because I like blue, even if it is two-tone.

And that tiny bag? Oddly, I really want to find a medium one to carry my camera in. Because that'd make me feel awesome.

I've actually been looking around in the game stores here, but haven't had much luck. Occasionally I come across Justice for All, but I haven't seen the first one in probably a year. It could be because I'm in Chicago, and I'll have to trailblaze out to a less-travelled game store or something to find a copy. Perhaps this will be my weekend adventure.

Ah yes, I have heard nothing but good things about Professor Layton. It will probably, barring some random used-game finds, be the first game I get for the DS. Prism also sounds interesting... I shall keep an eye out.

Oooh, old-school skin is hardcore old-school. I guess you would get the white system to go with that, then?

The bag is big enough to hold a small camera, actually. Maybe I should try using it for that sometime. It would be so sweet; people would be all, "Hey, are you going to the miniature bowling alley?" and I'd be all, "No, I'm a photography ninja!!!" And then I would take their picture. Oh man.

Hmmm. Well, I have confidence that a copy of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney exists somewhere in the Chicago area, just waiting for you to obtain it! And when you do, you should definitely play it at work and ask your attorney coworkers to explain the differences between the game and real-world law. They'll like that.
