So, a question has been raised in my apartment. A question of pets. We are in a situation that doesn't allow us a cat (or a dog, for that matter) because of a $400 pet deposit. But both [livejournal.com profile] deathscytheheck and I have been needing something small and cute to dote on. Concerns already voiced include not wanting to clean up the messes, and what happens to them when we move. Right now, it looks like we'll end up getting two rats, but I'm not sure yet whether a rat is really what I want (even though there is one at the pet store near where I work that looks rather adorable and has endeared itself to me). So... my choices are few, but I ask anyway, because more opinions are good. I know I don't want anything bigger than a rat--guinea pigs are sweet, but I've had two already, got far too attached to them... aaand they make a mess. Ferrets are a lot of work, and kind of smell funny. Chinchillas are mean, and they bathe in dust, which is fundamentally wrong. So that basically leaves me with rats and mice. Mice are so cuuuute, but I don't think they'd be as entertaining. I do want something that can exhibit a personality (then again, my fish have had personalities). (I might also just get fish.) I also kind of want a snake or some kind of reptile, but I haven't found a kind that I like that doesn't eat fuzzies, and that'd make me sad. So... poll!

I am quite partial to mice, but in my mind mice and rats are the same. Rats are just Larger Mice, which makes them easier to snug, if one so chose to do so.

My dilemma is that the mice are so cute and look much softer than the rats (and come in more colours). And soft is yay. But they're smaller and I worry they'd get lost. Plus they don't look as curious as the rats, and curious makes animals more fun. Such a hard decision! There should be mouse-rats. Like... smallish rats that are still all poking their nose into things and aren't frightened as easily, but are fluffy and soft. They could squeak, too, and I wouldn't mind. I need to be an evil genius soon so I can make them...

My vote is for the mice. As I have a little mousey, her name is Alby, and she's wonderful. <3 She's very sweet and very cute. The only problem I have is that I bought a wire cage, and when she gets to nesting she kicks out cage fluff everywhere which makes a mess. So I say go with a mouse, but get a terrarium or something with solid walls instead of wire. It's more expensive, but tends to work better. I've also heard that mice are good at escaping from wire cages. I've had Alby a long time and she hasn't gone anywhere, but that doesn't mean you won't get a little escape artist.

Alby is so cute! That's why I spent entirely too much time cooing over the mice at the pet store. Also, I think I would be more likely to get mice if I could find a terrarium that wasn't like, electric-colored plastic. Mice are cute and shy, they don't need crazy plastic to express themselves. Maybe gerbils do or something, but that's no reason to accost the rest of rodentkind.

Oh no. That's one thing I can definitely say no to. My sister has an iguana... which means I basically had an iguana for a couple of years (and still do when I go home). It's huge, it's grumpy, it's got sharp claws, and it's huge. And grumpy. With sharp claws. Did I mention huge? I can't pick it up. It could probably knock my head off with its tale. Which I'm sure it would do if I got close enough. It also once escaped from its cage onto my bed while I was sleeping.

So, noooo iguanas for me.

Even though they're cute when they're little. Baby chameleons are cuter, though. So I think if I went for scaly, I'd get one of those. I hear they're awfully hard to take care of, though.

That would be so adorable. As long as it didn't grow into a big bunny rabbit. ^_^

Haha well rabbits come in all shapes in sizes, but they definitely make mini ones that stay tiny.
