So um... I kind of messed up my line memorization. But it was okay, I got most of it. Nervousness and all that.
And complete, utter shock.
Allow me to explain. You see, I was way early, because I do that when I'm nervous about things. So I show up, and the prof is there (the only day she's sat in on discussion sections) with donuts. Yay! She's very friendly, and asks me to remind her of my name, usual stuff. Then "Oh? You! Your paper was wonderful." I stare, dumbstruck, for a few seconds. "Oh, um... wow, thanks. That makes me feel much better, I'm always nervous about my papers." And she hands it back to me. Smiling. I read it. And I... I got an A on a paper here.
I have never gotten an A on a paper here.
Never.
In three years.
I... continue to be at a loss for words. (She also said she was glad I was an English major. It makes me feel like such a dork, being happy about that.) I should be celebrating or something. But now I sort of think I've set the bar too high. Can I pull off two A papers in one quarter? In the same class? Or will I DIE? (At least it's the Shakespeare class. Shakespeare is fun. And I don't usually have to force myself to get through the reading.)
And now I need to get to work on Scav Hunt stuff. (Hour after hour after hour work is never over...) I think, once this A thing sinks in, I will be hopelessly giddy today.
Oh, and to make this entirely random, as I was skimming my friendslist (and the continued Chapter 59 Controversy), a very odd (and mostly baseless) thought occurred to me. So... Kimbley? First time we've seen him in the manga. Do we know anything about him much, aside from what's in anime canon, and a few flashes here and there of his hands? Nope. (Not that I remember.) Wouldn't it be cool, and clever, if he was Pride? Bear with me here, the whole alchemy thing, I know. But his arrays are on his hands. He's always got 'em. No reason those couldn't just be drawn there (by him or Father) to hide the fact that his highly specialized alchemy is really a disguise for his homunculus power, ja? Heck, right now we barely know what his alchemy entails. When you think of it, Pride is more effective if it's someone we know, right? What better place to hide him than someone evil who we wouldn't expect? Who's mostly mysteriously disappeared since the war. Plus this'd shut up all the kiddies who are like "but where are our plot twists?!" And his eyes are creepy, guys, we've all noticed this, right? So there. That's my crack theory for this chapter. Of course, now that I've said it I'm sure it won't happen. But it'd be cool if it did. (I imagine, since I have a habit of mixing canons, there may have been more on Kimbley that I missed along the line, but I'm sticking with this for now. For fun. I think he's even sort of got the ears.) And, all in all, the most I think about it, the more certain I am that there will be some important revelations in this flashback. At the very least, we'll find out what's special about Scar and Mei's alchemy. I don't know why people seem to have forgotten that this flashback is going to be a vehicle for that little plot point. Plus we'll find out whatever the promise was between Roy and Hughes. And there's probably some revelation in store for us regarding the corruption of the military. Dude, what is Major Kimbley doing with all those bigwigs, anyway? Suspicious!

It's a shame that, since I've written this theory down now, it's never gonna happen. It's almost like it's there to tease you. Except I'm pretty sure most people aren't quite as freeform in the way they come up with theories. If it isn't true, though, I want to write it. Except it interferes with my already-in-progress Hughes is Pride thing.
Goshdarnit, Kimbley.

Re: Kimbley, I feel like he's been suggested before, but I know every candidate for Pride I've seen has been shot down some way or another, and I can't think of what the proof against him would have been. It's certainly a plot twist I could go for. Kimbley. STOP BEING HOT. IT CONFUSES ME.

My guess is the proof may have been he's an alchemist. At least, that's the obvious choice. But the homunculus powers are so close to alchemy. It's a shame not to exploit that. ^_^
