Today I spent eight hours in Mandel Hall. Less of it was spent playing with sound than it could have, but I was treated to some very good mango bubble tea and pizza. And I got to play with a new electronics-related toy. Actually, I should point out how cool this is... because I got to hook my computer into the entire theatre sound system. I'm not sure I can really put into words how much better that is than a CD. Lots. Very Much. Oodles. Now, of course, I have to be very careful not to cause any sort of system noises while I'm playing around up there, but it's not like I'll foolishly sign on to the internet the night of the show or anything. I don't imagine people would take well to an IM chime in the middle of a particularly dramatic bit about communist China. But I'm a good little sound person, even if I did conclude the run-throughs today with a string of random "Yaaay!" sound effects, and randomly decide in Act 1 that I'd take the part of the spirit by using our one upstairs microphone and switching the channels from left to right to be spooky. It was artistic license, and I figure since I'm still alive now, it's okay.
Also, it's pretty weird to sit there listening for cues on the headset and having to pick them out of a constant string of Chinese conversation. But, hey, who else from my wee little Ohio town gets to do strange things like this, hmm?
Yes, oddly enough, I'm in an excellent mood. Even though I've barely done any of my homework for tomorrow. I'm in such trouble this week, but I will survive! I'm determined! And I should probably go to sleep, so I can get up tomorrow and finish my art-project thing and then pick up the packets I need for classes and... maybe actually manage to read them before class. Let's hope I get out of the dorm before ten, though at this point the chances of me waking up before then are slim.
I also took pictures of bits of Mandel. I have a feeling this is going to become a running theme, until I run out of places on campus to take random pictures.
