Okay... I've done basically nothing today, so I have nothing to write about. I guess I could complain about how music on the radio sucks. That "My Humps" song? It has got to be one of the worst songs I've heard in... well, ever, really. Ow. I also noticed today that, even though the song is "Don't Phunk with my Heart", apparently it had to be censored to "Don't Mess with my Heart" for radio. That was weird to hear. But really? I feel like I can't even complain about the rest of the crap on the radio after hearing "My Hump." (Do yourself a favour, please, and don't ever look up the lyrics. I'm crying... and left wondering if "u" and "you" are actually pronounced differently in the song. And oh my goodness, it's worse as text, I'm certain of it. Wtf is that part about Coco Puffs?)

Conclusion? I am so glad I don't listen to the radio regularly! It scares me that I can't find any of the CDs I want around here, but obviously there's a bigger problem at hand here. Obviously anyone who doesn't have cool friends with good taste in music is more than likely left to rely on the radio to provide their music. And... there's nothing good on the radio! These poor people! I should start some sort of crusade to help them. I doubt they'd like anything I have... but I think I could guarantee that just about anything is better than most of the crap on the radio. Oh, and Green Day? They were okay like, what, eight years ago? And... and... how have they not gotten any older?! Cyborgs, the lot of them!

Popular music is a terrifying thing. I think I'm running back to my... strange stuff with very little mass appeal. I think the closest I come to mainstream right now might be Death Cab. Have they gone mainstream yet? I know their new album (which I didn't know was new) is on a real label. Scary. (I sell out easily, though... I liked it.) Or maybe Guster. Other people have heard of Guster, too. I caught some of their stuff on my RA's computer, and he's got pretty general taste in music. Though, to be fair, most of his music didn't flat-out suck, he just has normal taste in things.

Also, just so this entire post isn't randomly about music that may or may not suck, [livejournal.com profile] sketchyheart broke my brain today, and I will never again try to insist that it's impossible to make Hughes female. Yeah... (there was a reason for this!)

There is some good popular music. Green Day's Boulevard of Broken Dreams is still amazing. What is mainstream these days anyway?

Boulevard of Broken Dreams is a good song... it's just everywhere. All the time. And Wake Me Up When September Ends.

Mainstream these days, as far as I see it, appears to be what it's been for the past few years. A lot of less-than-great hip-hop and rap-based stuff. Though to be fair I've listened to the radio for maybe an hour total since I got back. I shouldn't have left my CDs in the Chicago. I've been braving the roads with only Picaresque between me and the radio, and I'm afraid I'm going to wear myself out on the Decemberists before break's over. (-;
