So... my first day back at work. And it was slooow. Probably because everyone's still in school. I had quite a few nice people, and it wasn't until the last set that people managed to get me flustered (someone ordered a pretzel... that's the only thing that got changed, and making them now involves using the new microwave in the back, so... yeah. More running around for me.) None of the prices went up... none of the sizes changed on me... just the pretzels. Overall, no big deal. I even got to work with people I knew, which is a giant plus. However, I was also right back in the middle of the bizarre things the theatre does to my self-image or whatever. I know it was last summer that people stopped calling me the concession "girl" and I became the concession "lady." Or the "lady behind the counter." (Sometimes this is preceeded by "nice.") Now, apparently, I have children. Not one child. Children. Do I look old enough to have more than one child? More than one child that I would be taking to see Narnia? Now, nice man, I understand you were trying to make conversation, and you were indeed very nice to me when I waited on you, too. But... dude... children. It's really good, you should take your children to see it? Holy crap I can't possibly look that old, can I? Was it because I implied that I'd been working there for three years when you asked about the candy? Please tell me it was that. I don't want to be old enough to have had multiple kids! Twenty! I'm twenty, darnit, and I have no children!

And that's pretty much my day. I sat through the first half hour of Rent today during my break (which was after this). It's... well, I'm going to have to see the rest of it to really figure out how I feel about the adaptation. Some parts of it seem sort of awkward on screen, but that could be because I realized I've got nearly the entire show memorized, and it follows it nearly word-for-word in most parts. It's especially weird to hear things spoken (that rhyme) that used to be sung. So... going to have to watch it all, and then decide. And Narnia does indeed look good.

Oh, and now that I remember (I'm actually going in chronological order here, whoa)... not too long before I left, while I was watching the box office since everyone else had gone we got a call. I abhor answering the phone because I can never do it properly. Last time I answered the phone, I got one of my managers in trouble with her sister because I told her that she was outside smoking. Yeah. My phone skills = 0. But anyway... I answer the phone, and it's this really polite guy, greets me with my name and asks "Are you going to be showing Brokeback Mountain?" I bustle around the box looking for some kind of proof, even though I doubt we're going to get it. I tell him I'm not sure, I don't have any paperwork about what we're getting next. The guy keeps chatting with me about it, and we almost get into a conversation about the movie and everything. It was sort of strange, but he was really sweet. And then he hung up and I realized I was talking to some random guy on the phone about a movie about gay cowboys. Awesome. I wish I knew who he was, so I could give him a hug. Hehehe.

Blast, but he's probably not going to check the concession for whoever answered the phone when he called. I'll have to keep a close eye on everyone who comes in if we get that movie. I might be able to recognize his voice again... he had a nice voice. (But we've got Rent... somehow I'm afraid that's as close as we're going to get. Because I'm not sure this area could take two movies with blatant homosexuality, and I really doubt they'd give both of them to the same theatre. Though with all the awards Brokeback Mountain's up for now, I wouldn't be surprised if like, those random old ladies who only watch things that have been nominated for awards show up for it. Oh, then I'd be amused. I hope we get it, just so I can watch the old ladies as they leave.)
