Charabia, now that I know what it means, it a very useful French word. It appears to mean "gibberish". This is not only cool from my standpoint that, at this point, most French is gibberish when spoken at normal speeds, but also from the point that, right now, most of what I type on this lab keyboard turns into gibberish because the keys are not as sensitive as my laptop ones. Oh, and then there's stuff like I got in my e-mail today:
"compile in flatland may synoptic see stapleton but assignee some percept see stethoscope it's senorita a playwriting be concretion but transform not aberrate it bien try stood Or maybe not"
Charabia, non? I'd say it could almost be randomly generated from my journal (which would be creepy), but I don't think I've uttered the word "stapleton." Is that even a word? If it is, I vow to use it. Sigh. No such luck. Stapleton is a place, at least. I was hoping for something like "simpleton." Only instead of simple-minded, it'd mean something like... having a mind like a staple. That... um... sticks things together. By piercing them. (Well, you can have a sharp mind. And a piercing glare. Might as well break metaphors a bit more, non?)
This is really an excuse not to keep looking over my Civ paper. I wasn't expecting to be done with French so early. But it actually went well. Both of us remembered all of our lines! It's a beautiful thing when that happens. And in one of the study rooms on the second floor of the Reg, I wrote "C'est du charabia" on thegreenblackboard. I hope it inspires someone. Or confuses them, and by confusing them, teaches them a new word. Today you've learned two new words: charabia and stapleton. I have a tremendous urge right now to call someone a stapleton, and I hope the occasion for it comes soon.
You can tell I need sleep badly, can't you? Gah. Hehehe.
[Edit:] Argh! Why isn't it noon yet?! I can't come up with many more ways to waste time! I've never wanted a paper deadline to come faster. I suppose I could just go turn it in at the office, but then I'd be really, really tempted to skip the review, and that'd be bad. I need the review. I skipped a day of class, and chances are, knowing the professor, it'll be a rather good advantage considering how much of the stuff covered in class but not the reading was on the midterm. I refuse to screw myself over again (like I did many, many times in French by not taking the easier way out!). Rar. Twenty more minutes... maybe I should go find food. Grab a bagel or something. But now I'm distracted by the wireless here in the Reg. You know, I've spent so much more time in the Reg this quarter than usual. I even was in Ex Libris today. It's sort of sad, actually, that there are places on this campus that I haven't been in yet, and this is my third year here. If I can still stand campus at all by next Wednesday, maybe I'll just waste some time by exploring. Might be interesting.
