There's nothing like this lovely feeling of.. done-ness I feel right now. Yeah, lots of people were jealous that I got all my finals over with before this weekend, but all the rushed studying sucked. That aside, I do believe it is time for some much deserved nostalgia. Because I know, as much as I complained about it while it was going on, this was such a freaking fun quarter (minus most of the weekends.. I'll maintain my bitter stance on that). Despite the stress and constant homework and social rejection and peer pressure and.. well, we've been through all that before. So, looking back, I will outline what I remember most about this quarter... and then maybe I'll judge how it went, eh?
O-Week: O-week was more than a week. O-week sucked. In fact, most of O-week was more stressful than about 85% of this quarter has been. Too many forms and tests and "social obligations," not enough sleep. Me = cranky and unhappy = horrible start to the year. Grr.
First Week: Scared to death of classes. Only week I understood physics. Dropped soc, added French, learned by advisor is completely useless for things other than what the university absolutely requires her to do... and even then..
Second Week: Get my laptop back from the computer place (seems like it was gone for far more than a week. Huh. Enjoy beautiful weather and blue skies. Step on Jake Gyllenhall, contemplate throwing muffins at Gweneth Paltrow, possibly cameo in Proof with my bookbag. Life is good. (Weekend: RA leaves, terribly drunk night for floor, get hit on, clean up vomit in lounge. Life is not-so-good).
Third Week: Doesn't seem to have existed at all. Was introduced to some lovely music. Pretty much it.
Fourth Week: Generally busy week. Midterms start. Not bad. (Weekend: More anti-drinking crisis. Culminates in giant evil rambling friends-only entry.)
Fifth Week: Includes Time-Travel night, which was one of the most fun things I've done here. Actually involved lots of sober people doing insane things. Minus the lasagna dropped on the 12th floor lounge, fun-ness! Also random post-its of doom! Halloween trip to Rocky Horror latest night out all quarter, much much fun. Good week, good weekend. Woo!
Sixth Week: Swamped by French homework. Attend first frat party, endure much pressure to drink, but enjoy having friends that will mix you non-alcoholic drinks. Roomies friends visit, catch a Wisconsin cold, but overall not bad. Also, write pretty good Hum paper.
Seventh Week: FINANCIAL AID WEEK OF DOOM. Also, toilet paper lady, and lots of forms. Actually start hanging out with people and having actual conversations. Amusement! Midterms continue, as does French homework.
Eighth Week: Starts out at the end of Saturday night, everyone stays in my room until 3 in the morning, supremely annoying me and pretty much cementing my frustration with someone... Financial aid finally cleared up, but don't get to preregister, pretty much screwed for next quarter. On plus side, get to act out Godot again.
Ninth Week: Finals begin, make paper hats for Godot, walk around campus weilding sticks and laughing. Lose my wallet, but it's found again with everything in it. Woo. Fait in humanity restored! Thanksgiving also included, weird but nice. Start to get homesick.
Tenth Week: Defined by finals and complete lack of motivation for anything. Other than that, starting to get really used to things, becoming better friends with people, but about to go home.
Overall:
Knowledge... +lots
Stress... +more than enough
Tiredness... +eleventybillions
Love of Home... +much+much
Social Skills... +/- 3
Speaking French... +a million
Things I learned that weren't part of class:
-How to care for drunk people.
-How, if I wanted to, I could light a bowl, a bong, or otherwise smoke pot.
-The intimacies of the bus schedules
-Not to bother trying to catch a bus on Sundays
-How to play poker.
-How to do laundry
-How to write a better hum paper
-That I really, really miss drama (Especially the parts with lots of dramatic standing. [Henry V, and Cabaret respectively.. Except the Cabaret links are wrong right now because UT mysteriously just pulled the pictures..])
-That not all track teams are made up of whiny evil basketball players
-There are other people in the world dorkier than I am. By oodles. Hehehe!
-How to fix lots of people's computers
-How to hook up tons varying of A/V equiptment to our TV without unplugging the fan
-That just because it's sunny, doesn't mean it's warm or nice out
-That the Midway is a gigantic freaking wind tunnel
-Harper is the greatest place to try to write an essay
So... that only got cut because it ended up tons longer than I meant it to be. Yaay. So, there's my random sort-of happy summary of the quarter. It's been fun, but I can't wait to get home. This afternoon is for doing laundry, and packing up, and much rejoicing. And of course, putting some time and effort into my last hum paper of the quarter. I've really got to learn to put more effort into the finals. I pretty much put good effort into things all quarter, but by the end I'm usually just out of energy, whereas most people are all panicky and don't want to screw up, so they do super-well on everything at the end, and it makes me look bad and where was this sentence going again, because I can't remember what I wrote to start it and now I'm confused! So, yeah. Good sign of my general exhaustion. It might also be an effect of the only 5 hours of sleep I got last night. I could've gotten like, 7 if I'd known my final didn't start until 9:30, darnit! Grrrr.
Anyway... yeah.. Laundry. Paper. Finish. Woo.
