Oh world, you've given me amazing reminders lately that fandom is not the only part of you that's completely insane. In fact, judging by things that have been posted to forums on AOL (which is nothing to judge anything by... we all know the folk that use AOL. Myself excluded, of course, since I'm not here by choice), fandom is quite normal. I mean, you can't count gas prices as a fandom, so clearly the wank is just normal behavior. The poorly-spelled, illogical behaviour of normal people given some space on the internet. It just focuses on real-world things, rather than what sort of fanart counts as porn, and whether or not you're corrupting the children. And the people involved probably average slightly on the more adult side.
But anyway... the real point of this was NBC's concert thing last night. I sort of half-watched it while writing things, since I didn't like most of the music. But I did happen to catch Keyne West's speech. (Which happens to be posted here on![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
ohnotheydidnt, though I wouldn't recommend trying to read through the crazy-wank comments). I'm torn between saying he's awesome and saying he was crazy, but it's obvious that it was both. He was clearly nervous, and, if nothing else, Mike Meyers' expressions in reaction to what was going on were priceless. Still, saying what he did took a lot of guts, whether it was technically accurate or appropriate for the time or not. I'm afraid of what they're going to do now that he called Dubyah a racist on national TV. So... props, Keyne West. Props.
This whole thing has, of course, gone totally predictably politcal. Sigh. It looks like we're doomed to hearing people argue over this for years.
