I'm sort of proud of myself... I haven't hit an atrociously bad movie yet this summer. Then again, that's also a sign that I haven't been taking advantage of my free movies enough. This is the last summer I have them, after all. (Though it's rather possible, depending on the change-over of staff, that at times I might be able to weasel my way in once in a while). So, I went to see Skeleton Key with [livejournal.com profile] becada422 and [livejournal.com profile] llamaninja this afternoon. It wasn't nearly as bad as The Village, which was the last movie of that sort that I'd seen. It was surprisingly un-annoying as far as thriller-type movies go. Unfortunately I have the worst habit ever of figuring out plot twists. Just... no one should tell me that there's a plot twist in a movie, because then I sit there thinking about it. To be fair, though, I was a bit more equipped to figure out the plot twist than most people.

I totally blame FMA. I laughed a little when the arrays first appeared. I mean, circles are a common thing in voodoo/hoodoo/witchcraft/everything. Power circles, crop circles. Whatever. Then I started to think about what was going on, and the term "sacrifice" came up a lot. And I laugh a little more and let it pass, because I'm not always like "OMG FMA!" at things. Theeen they were like "the ultimate protection! A way to extend your life by sacrificing that of another." And I go... ooooh. Whoosh. Dante. Hohenheim. And then I get to thinking, well, either they taught the kids the stuff and they're somehow the couple... which couldn't be true because the kids actually did die later on. So that killed my theory for a little while until Caroline was running to see the lawyer and I realized that I was out of characters to make the plot twist work, so the guy would have to be in on it. And his accent was strange to me... his actions didn't really fit with the way he talked. So somehow I not only leaped to the conclusion that he was in on it, I also leapt to the conclusion that he was Justify. Which was confirmed when he made some sort of comment later on about not knowing what it was like to die. Near the end, after the girl trapped herself in the circle, I was really afraid that somehow she'd escape and it'd have one of those "omg, everyone is crippled and scarred for life" cop-out endings that some horror movies tend to have, just to make people feel a little bit better at the end. But it didn't! I was so happy! So Skeleton Key totally gets boSinus points for ending it properly. And for having an excellent plot twist that most people wouldn't have figured out. And I'm still not sure if I can really get myself to write off some things as not being very slight references to FMA, considering the subject matter. Sure, it was a subtle theme in the show, but... I dunno... when she had her hair back in the braid with the bangs down like that?

Siiiigh, I wanted to go shopping today, too. But alas. Maybe I'll get lucky and get called in to work tomorrow, though it's really not likely. Unless every other form of entertainment in the area breaks or closes. I need more money! And I also realized, as I was writing down my schedule for next week, that I forgot to ask for the 28th off so I could go to my Nanny's birthday party. So I'm going to have to trade with someone. Yuck. We're getting a ton of new people, too, since everyone who started the year after me is heading off to college now. Alas. I'm totally not coming back for holiday help now, because I'll have to learn how to use the stupid barcode scanners and deal with all the new people who will think I'm new and treat me like I'm stupid. Which is one of the least fun things in the world, though I'm not sure if it comes before or after being talked down to by YSU students who are no older than you, and possibly younger. Just because they stay home for school and therefore have the time to be managers at the theatre. Tsk tsk.
