Apologies to anyone who's seen this already, but down in LA there are a bunch of nerds camped out at the wrong theatre waiting for Star Wars... in protest. Because they don't want it to play at the better theatre down the street. Actually... they just lined up at the wrong theatre. And then decided they didn't want to move, and called it a protest in hope that they'd show it there anyway. And then Wil Wheaton (Star Trek's very own Wesley Crusher) made fun of them. And they got all indignant. And now it's nerd versus nerd and there are in-groups and cliques in the line (which is not Wil's fault, directly, but he brought them to light). And people bringing pizza and making tongue-in-cheek jokes and people glueing quarters to the ground. And making fun of Picard, in which the "French guy with a British accent? Come on!" arguement is invoked. Yes, the one I have heard several million times from Skirtpants. Seriously, if I didn't have like, half a billion things to do every weekend between now and when Star Wars comes out (and if I wasn't broke beyond all belief) I'd take a road trip down to LA and visit them, too. Oh, wow... if only that was a Scav Hunt item. That'd be awesome. Hehehehe.

And this is part of the subculture that I identify with...

Yeah, sounds about right to me.

At least I can laugh at it. Even if I was in the line.

(P.S. I still can't get over how oddly similar Chopin's Etude in E Major is to Jean-Jacques Burnel's We Were Lovers. It's got to be intentional).

Oh my. The dam breaks, and the Trekkies and the Star Wars fans go to war.

You know, I think I saw a porno Far Side cartoon like this.

On another note, I never noticed the similarity. Well, maybe I sort of did, but still. O_o

The weirdest thing about it is that I got the MP3 from fm_alchemist for some reason, and I cannot remember at all where in the series it popped up from. Very strange. And the similarities drive me nuts when I hear it. ^_^ I'm like oh, I know the words here and... wtf?

(I think I'm going to call the Star Wars nerds sometime tonight, in case they've put the phone on the hook so it can ring. Hehehe. Then I'll write about it here and try to become a famous blogger like Wil Wheaton).
