I downloaded three of the new series last night... I've been downloading random things most of today (still looking for a series I haven't seen that I can watch the French fansubs of, because the one Gankutsuou one I saw was fun). Hopefully NSIT won't come crashing down on my badwidth hoggage. I knew from the start that, from my 20-year old plot-loving female standpoint things were not looking too great for this season. FMA is long over, Gankutsou and Samurai Champloo have both ended. (Okay, Samurai Champloo had no plot. But darnit it was good at it!) In search of my anime fix... I pretty much downloaded everything that had decent-looking art from l33t-raws. This was, of course, not exactly the greatest idea since I cannot speak Japanese. I can probably understand basic sentences... but that's about it. Also, none of these series look interesting. However, in support of impartial journalism, I bring you my impressions of all three. The plus side? High-quality raws means pretty pictures! Unfortunately, that also means anyone on dial-up is DOOMED, because there is slightly less than 10MB of pictures in this entry. I couldn't be bothered to size them down. Also, this entry is rated PG-13. Or.. what is it now? K+.
Law of Ueki Or Ueki's Law or something:
Okay... umm, I think the only reason I downloaded this was that Paku Romi does the voice for Ueki. And yes, she makes him sound a lot like Ed, especially in the explicable battle-dome-looking cold opening. You later realize that this has nothing to do with the show (for the most part), or at least this episode. From here we meet Ueki and his.. sister-like person. I assume she is some sort of relative, because young guys don't just have female friends like that in anime. They're too busy blushing, looking at their underwear, or inadvertantly touching their boobs (which we'll get into later).

Blue hair, green hair. Anime-ish enough for me. Apparently Ueki's power, or skill, or art (actually, it's not skill... I didn't hear jutsu, and I know that word) is turning things into trees. Gum wrappers, broomsticks, something that looks like tissues that came out of a plastic bag. He uses this surprising power to beat up this group of bullies that comes over inexplicably and tries to beat him up. I'm sure it's explained in the dialog, but at this point I'm not even sure of anyone's name but Ueki, and that's about as far as I got. I was able to deduce later who's who, from ANN. And oh, the fun there. (From this point forward, I will be having much fun with seiyyu connections).

Blue-hair girl is busy chewing Ueki out for using his special POWAH in public or something when suddenly someone appears in the tree. Someone grey-haired and weird. Who is, sadly, not Kakashi. Nor, surprisingly, voiced by Kakashi. This man is the one reason I may watch the next episode of this series. Because I swear he is Hughes Kakashi Gendo-sensei (those are all more pictures, I'm saving you bandwidth, darnit!). He also appears to be sort of crazy, but you would be too if you were three basically awesome yet rather opposing characters at once.
Basically more things that I couldn't follow happen, and all of a suddenEd Ueki is kidnapped by this guy, and it becomes obvious how bean-like small he is. Then suddenly the kidnapper starts waxing poetic about Maria Ross or something.

Don't ask me what's going on in that picture, I only took the screenshots. Also, apparently Maria Ross is Greed. The best part about this, though, is that that guy (yes, it's a guy) sounded oddly familiar. So... afterwards I looked it up. And you know what, I dare you to guess who does the voice. DARE YOU. (To the people who got confused when that wasn't another picture: MARIA ROSS. Or at least, Maria Ross' voice is in this anime, and I'm pretty sure she voices this guy).
So someone falls off a bridge and there's a daring rescue scene and a large tree is involved and Maria takes out her whip and lays the smack down. Somehow they end up underneat the bridge and Maria's army of insane lackees (lackies?) in black cars start revving their engines threatening to run over Ueki, the kidnapper, and some random little boy who are now all chained together. The kidnapper has some kind of random flashback and his sensei gets something to drink out of a machine after he gets beat up by a bunch of bullies and suddenly in the present he is able to break his chains. And suddenly Ueki is free too and the cars go and omg he repells them withalchemy magic Tringham-brothers tree-growie! But Maria Ross has a trump card!

Seriously, who on Earth has a drill under the hood of their creepy black sedan? Wtf? Anyway, she attempts to use this to ram throughRussel Ed Ueki's tree-thing, only to be suddenly pwned! You'd think this would be enough, but the credits introduce even more scary characters (and also proves that Hughes Kakashi Gendo-sensei the first is a sensei). However, in closing I think I will leave you with the same sort of image it left me.

Overall: Tolerable. I'm sure the subs will clear up a lot of the wtf. But... not much interesting to the plot, and I have a feeling it'll boil down to a fighting anime. And what's with that creepy pikachu-looking thing? I also don't like the eyes.
Continue?: On a scale of 1-10, 10 being definitely watch, I'll say 6. I will watch the next episode for Hughes Kakashi Gendo-sensei the first. And maybe an explanation of that scary puff-thing. And Maria Ross.

エレメンタルジェレイド:

Ah, the great Engrished opening. Foreboding, isn't it, when coffins do not understand whose things they are? Yes, this one also had an opening that had very little to do with the rest of the story. I mean, I'm sure it did... but I didn't understand it, so what the heck.
I think the animation on this one just looked sort of okay. I had no idea what it was about. And since there are so many freaking spellings, there was little hope of finding info on it (until ANN!). So, the basic story appears to be about this cross between Ed, Vash, and possibly Yu-Gi-Oh.

I didn't catch his name, but ANN tells me it's Coud. Coud is voiced by Gaara of theDessert Desert. Who is also Cho Hakkai, which blows my mind almost as much as the Maria Ross thing. Do you think she makes the animators draw that mole on all here characters? But I digress. This kid's only power at the start of the show is that he's got this hook. Also, the airships in this remind me of Tail Spin.

I'm not sure if this disturbs me or not. It might be the colour-palette, too. And the inside of the ship reminds me eerily of TMNT. But, ah, we won't go into that because most of the backgrounds in this remind me of something weird.
Anyway, they attack this random ship andEd Ueki ... Coud is all hyper-spastic fighting and jumping down into holes and laughing off missiles (fire ze missiles!) and such. He gets back onto the ship after some guy yells at him for being a dunce and forgetting his name and standing on the other ship's captain or something. And he tells the story to the other people on his airship and they laugh at him and he sulks off about something (they probably called him short). He goes into the ship's treasure hold where he finds the omg!existential!coffin. And, guess what.

There's a girl inside! A spacey blue-haired one! She's apparently voiced by the same person who was "Woman (episode 26)" in FMA... not that you'd ever know, because she only says one line. It's something about not knowing, and not being human, or something. Person and know were both in the sentence, I know that. Then suddenly something happens and Coud runs off with this girl to the cockpit of the ship, where we meet the captain.

The captain is clearly Cid-Barret, and might possibly have inherited that arm from his brother. The world may never know. He yells at Coud (that name reminds me of Clous... I swear I can watch that for like, ten minutes) for unlocking the sekrit existential!crisis!coffin and acquiring his very own spacey blue-haired girl. Until, a random group of people show up and try to buy her from him.

At first I thought, oh, interesting. I could probably cosplay the one on the right there if they turn out to be cool people. (If you're laughing already shut up, it gets worse). The middle short one is of course the loud one, rambling on annoyingly sounding like Meryl or Milly from Trigun (yet being neither). She introduces the other two, whose names I do not catch, however...

Then Rowan here takes it upon himself to speak. And I'm like... oh. And then I realize, wait, his voice sounds familiar, too! What character do I know that sounds sort of pleasant and male? And I look it up... freaking Zolof Kimblee. Does. not. computer. Yeah. Wtf? Aaand, the girl next to him is introduced. I don't remember her name offhand, but keep in mind that she is played by Hinata and Wrath's seiyyu. So we now, in the same room, have Gaara, Hinata, Wrath, Kimblee, and annoying Meryl/Millie sound-alike. And then... well, let's concentrate on Hinata and Gaara right now. It'll put you in the right state of mind for what happens next. Are you ready for this?

SURPRISE NINJA ATTACK! Apparently they want dafty-blue as well, but don't want to pay for her. So Gaara runs off with her again, this time with Cid-Barrett's sword. Of course, swords are useless against NINJAS. So Millie starts shooting at them and Kimblee and Wrath take the time to start glowing and suddenly combine their power into a strange weapon!!

You'd think I was lying if I didn't have the screencaps, I know it. Rowan's face during the transformation is... sort of creepy. And, if possible, even more feminine. Reminds me of chaos. So, now that they are some kind of combined weapon they do NOTHING. Completely disappear from the screen. There's not even anyone for them to fight up there, they're out of ninjas! And the fight continues below now that annoying-girl has refilled her gun with ammo. Suddenly the ninja BREAKS PAST and Coud must repel it with the sword, but he is overpowered and suddenly the purpose of Rowan and Wrath combining becomes clear as suddenly Coud combines withLe Blue Girl the blue girl and gets his own big magic sword! And a resounding wtf is heard as the closing credits commence.
Overall: Style doesn't bother me much, seems to have more potential for plot than Ueki, seiyyu connect-the-dots is quite amusing, and this guy from the OP intrigues me grealy. I'm sure he's evil, and his minions creep me out, but he's in dark blue and has glasses, so he's cool.
Continue?: Ah, probably. I'd only say 6.5, though, because I have a feeling my amusement will wear out fast unless they come up with something super-intriguing.
Ichigo 100%
Great... now I have to find the % all the time. Actually, no. That was the last time I was going to do it. Anyway... the art in this one didn't look bad (that's always my excuse). And I didn't know any better. However, I must admit I didn't watch it all the way through. Why? Because in my quick little 30-second flip-through I hit not only 3 pantie shots, but the only phrase I heard was "Ichigo pantsu?" Yes, and I do know that one. Strawberry underwear. However, being the dedicated person I am, I went back through and caught every pantie shot for you. As it turns out, I hit all but one on my way through.

Basically, this kid is in high school and lots of girls fall on him, in front of him, for him, etc. All in all: not for me. Yay. Also, he has some very ugly friends. No wonder these girls are after him. Oh, and the opening is full of daft-looking girls. Scary. Also, spinning strawberries.
Overall: Freaking scary. I'm sure guys will love it though.
Continue?: Game Over. No amount of quarters will allow for continue. Proceed to the back of the line.
And now you see why I feel like this season is hopeless. Le sigh. Perhaps I will have to take most of this back when I actually get to watch the subs... (which would be nice, because then I'd have stuff to watch...) At the least though, I hope I was amusing! Bwahahaha.

I do. ... I bet Yakitate!Gendo does. ...You could start watching Yakitate and go "eh" at the animation quality... But I swear the crack will keep you. We're almost at the part where they *spoil spoil spoil* and PIERROT :D
I think i'm going to have to watch the first one, because wtf trees. And somg, freaky man! He also reminds me of some dude in comic party, and that dude was the only reason I would have continued watching it. But I never did :D; The girl that hated manga pissed me off too much XD;
And holy wtf batman. That's a lot of military and ninjas in a room. Like whoa. o__O

I'd like to see エレメンタルジェレイド, if only for Kimblee's VA, because his voice is very... nice. Mmyep.
(I was more WTF-ed to find out that Kimblee and Brock from Pokemon have the same seiyyu. My childhood... I will never be able to look at Brock the same way again...)

It took a lot of restraint to keep myself from typing Cloud every time. Coud is just not a natural thing to type.
(And I think I was wrong about the Maria Ross thing, now that I've seen the sub of Ueki. But it was an amusing proposition. ^_^)
