Last night, I went on a music-downloading binge because I have an emusic subscription that I always forget to use. The jury is still out on the things I downloaded (all promising, but I haven't finished listening)... but goofing around in last.fm led me to an odd discovery. It turned out, as I was fussing with a playlist, that both Atom and His Package and the Mountain Goats had a song called "Seed Song." Odd, I thought, and so today I looked into it. It turns out that nearly every one of my favourite songs on Redefining Music is, in fact, a Mountain Goats cover (with the exception of Upside Down From Here). So, a good four years (at least) before I'd even heard of the Mountain Goats, some of my favourite songs were John Darnielle's. Go figure. (This further cements my crush on John Darnielle's work. Goshdarn him and his music. Also, Atom and His Package stopped existing after Hair: Debatable? And now Adam teaches at a private school in Philly? Weird! I can't imagine having a chemistry teacher who wrote something like It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Lib.)
