So... I had a weird dream nightmare last night about somehow getting a virus on my computer from gmail... from clicking on the wrong thing in gmail that led me to an e-mail about... umm.. some sort of package delivery from my dorm and then McAfee died and came up with this little spork icon and started running in an infinite loop. I was in the high school library and our librarian was telling me how stupid I was to have clicked on that e-mail because the school doesn't even know my gmail account and I was basically running around panicking.
I think this dream most of all shows my fundamental distrust of McAfee, gmail, and this university. Mostly McAfee, though. I just don't trust it. It doesn't slow my computer down enough when it scans things... and it once took 20 minutes to scan through a Quicken folder that not only probably hadn't been touched since the computer was made, but was only about 50mb. What the heck? If Norton's wasn't all evil and making-you-pay-like, I'd have stuck with them. But now I go for the don't-have-to-pay-type school-endorced stuff. School-endorced stuff scares me. They still let people use Outlook, and Eudora. And IE. And let people unfirewalled onto the wireless connections. Does someone perhaps have an inherant distrust of NSIT? I think someone does.
