The more I think about this, the more I'm almost certain this is the fault of our education system. For some reason or another, since about the 1950s or probably earlier, we've been taught that America's the only place that has rights and liberties. Like everyone else in the world lives in oppressed third-world country. Not only that, but now those third-world oppressed countries are coming after us, and now we have to protect ourselves! And people believe this. And do you know why? BECAUSE OUR PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM SUCKS. It churns out people who don't think history books are biased and who can regurgiate useless facts back at you, but tell you nothing about what this stuff means. What's amazing is this: the people who started this country... sat down and freaking wrote everything down, realized that the masses were, unfortunately, easily swayed by stupid arguments and flag-waving and all that crap. I was going to call the masses stupid, but we already know that I think that more often than necessary, and it makes me sound meaner and more bitter than I should be. I digress... so they created this electoral college. That is supposed to be a safety net in case people elect someone stupid. And now for two elections in a row, it's done the opposite. Because no one realizes what it's there for, because we all like to think that we're smart enough to elect the right guy on our own. Afterall, our school books tell us we're the brightest and most educated people in the world. If we can't decide what's good for us on our own, what hope does the rest of the world have? Pfft! The rest of the world knows what's going on... why don't we? How on Earth, in my short lifetime, have we gone from a fairly liberal and tolerable nation to this? Where the religious right is banning gay marriage left and right and you're not a real American if you don't wave the flag and support Bush. Two elections in a row. And this time it's my state's fault. The terrorists were brilliant to attack this country when they did, when we were so divided. The liberals aren't going to stand behind a president they don't believe was fairly elected, and the conservatives sure as heck are going to stand tall behind him no matter what. If almost anyone but Bush had been in office three Septembers ago, maybe they wouldn't have disregarded the entire rest of the world and freaking split the country right down the middle like this. We know now that we're not going to agree on these things, and the rift's just going to get worse in the next few years. No one's going to admit they're wrong. We're too pompous for that. And for the liberal people (already liberal's been like a curse for a few years now anyway), having two elections thrown in their face like this... I imagine a lot of them have given up on democracy. I'm getting pretty sick of it, and I've only had the chance to vote once. I don't even know if my vote's been counted yet, or if it will be counted, because the system is so thoroughly screwed up.

And the worst part of all of it (at least directly, for my immediate sanity) is dealing with all the freaking sulking liberals and gloating republicans on this freaking campus. In the next week, I am going to have to hear what everyone and their mother's uncle's great-grandmother's psychic immortal pet hampster thought about the election. Freaking a.

Sigh... I'm just rambling. Please don't try too hard to argue with me about this.
