I've been watching Lost. I'm blaming Lost for the fact that it's freaking five in the morning. I can't remember the last time a television show actually creeped me out in more than one episode (and it did it within the first minute of the first episode, and has managed several more times since then). I can see why my Sosc prof was obsessed with this show (the philosopher references! Wtf!)

And it plays with your emotions. Frak. I adore Charlie. And the show just finished pulling a Chief Tyrol with him (not that kind of revelation, but the bits before where they always tried to KILL HIM). Argh. I was going to swear I wouldn't ever watch the show again if they killed him because man, every show (every show!... every form of entertainment!) has to kill or seriously endanger every character that I'm fond of. And the fact that I couldn't work out whether they'd kill him or not makes me happy--I love not being able to predict things... though I did think that Jack was supposed to die in the first episode, and lo and behold that was the original plan. Though obviously networks never let you go through with such things. So yay Lost. Yay for actually creeping me out, and for keeping me in effective suspense. (Even though there are always conventions to work from. There's no way, for example, that Claire is actually dead. But I could be wrong.)

And oh, the English geek in me has a field day picking this show apart. I would've put money on Kate being an eco-terrorist, though. So there. I'm usually wrong. But Locke and his predestination theories, and the general awesome of characters... (it's hilarious to watch my roommate operating his assumptions on the actual stereotypes they're building off of. He dreads Shannon's involvement in anything, even though it's obvious that if she was just the dumb blonde, they wouldn't be bothering to write her... at least not regularly). The random references... some of the dialog (I hate Sawyer, but he manages the best rapport out of everyone... and Sawyer's the kind of guy I always hate anyway). And I'm wishing that my French sucked less. (In fact, on a tangent, I've been tempted of late to get my hands on some of those conversational French CDs or something to put on my iPod and listen to on my way to work. Might as well do something useful, since I'm tired of most of my playlists right now. Definitely time for a trip to the library. Even though it means I'll have to pay my fine. It shouldn't be more than a dollar... I hope.)

And so... yeah. Just needed to ramble about that before I went to bed. I'm rather glad I have tomorrow off, but it's going to come back to bite me, because I'm going to see Stardust tomorrow afternoon, which means I won't get any sleep anyway. And it also means my job is only 5 days a week, and since I'm only averaging about 3 hours and 15 minutes of work every night, that's not going to amount to much of a paycheck... whenever I get it. In September. Grrr.
