So... I don't know how [livejournal.com profile] sketchyheart managed not to watch the movie until I made it over to her house at 8:30 tonight, but I'm forever grateful that I didn't have to go through that in the dark alone. Whoa. There were some great parts, and parts that made me squee and fangirl, and many, many parts that just made us both go "wtf." (Yes, "WTF" was spoken aloud. In letter form. Mostly by me). By the second part I think most of us were reduced to incoherence. In fact, I think after the one scene in the car with the monocle we were pretty much done for. (Best scene ever!) I'll pass a real judgement on the whole thing when there's an actual sub that I have edited because oh I want to like whoa now... hopefully no one else will feel like doing an entire movie and I can just jump in and go "OMG ME!!" I don't imagine anyone but Yey will do the sub yet though, considering the quality of the raw. I can wait now, though. There are mountains of spoilers and review posts I can go back to now. Yaaaay!

Uhmm... I don't even know if I can get my thoughts in order enough for this. Here's to trying, though... The beginning made no sense to me. Then they were in a car and I was going "hee!" at Hei, because he's adorable. (And suddenly the previous scene made sense as a flashback, even though we'd never seen or heard about it before, siigh). I now have a proper voice to give to him when I'm reading things, which makes me happy enough as it is. It's just a shame I couldn't understand any of this movie, aside from "alchemy," "alchemist," "fullmetal," and a few miscellaneous things here like "this girl" and "welcome back." Aaand I was reminded several times that... um... I guess I just don't notice when Ed's not around (this is my excuse on the matters in omg_alchemist, too). But Al's so cute! And so adorably Al still. I was afraid maybe he'd gone nuts. Well, I mean, the cosplay was a little nuts, but ohhh well. Most of the stuff in Germany I didn't understand, but seing Gracia constantly snub Hughes gave me a bit of unnecessary glee. We know that I was waiting for this movie for Nazi!Hughes, yes? And ahhh, he was so barely Hughes the entire movie, lurking around and hanging out with evillies, that I absolutely must know what sort of evilish sort of things he was saying. You know that characterization fetish I mentioned earlier? And how it focuses almost exclusively on Hughes. Ahhh! But anyway... a bit ahead of myself here. I wanted to poke Roy in his good eye for all the angst he appeared to be doing, but oooh dear, seeing him trying to light Havoc's cigarette with a match there was beautiful. (Even if that wasn't what was going on, let me continue in my delusions).

It's amazing how almost everyone seemed to have about the same amount of screen time. I don't know how they pulled it out, but it's probably why things totally stopped making sense to me once things actually started to happen. I know the end of the series was all "nothing's perfect" and "equivalent trade isn't the entire law" but oh my goodness Laws of Alchemy here people, ow! There's just... wow. I'll give it until the translation, but there'd better be some good explanation. I know I bend and twist things a lot with the way I interpret alchemy, but I also know there are a lot of people out there that have tried to write alchemy into everything in the Amestrian world, like automail and their vehicles (which just... no. Not alchemy there, as much as people argue with me over it). And it seems like they are the ones that go a hold of this. Alchemy requires an alchemist to cause the reaction. But that's beside the point. How the eff did that giant freaking human transmutation array on the ceiling... and... just... WTF. Oh, and the bits of Gate Babies on everything? Very creepy touch. And... actually proves something I was toying with in WiH. AND OMG THE RED ROCKET. Crack like that... just... omg, no. Just... no. That's not supposed to happen. There should be no random overlap with totally random things in fic.

Seeing Roy jump back into command like that was just so worth it. I can't stand angsty Roy. But that scene? Him just walking in? Awesome. There's the reason I finally learned to like the freak. Hee! The hot air balloon was just there for him to be cool, too. Hehehe. Whoa. And then, because I'd been wishing his death for... probably a year now, at that one scene cut Sketchy started pointing at me and blaming me, like he'd actually died! And... and! Well, I started to believe her, because at that point it had been a long time since I'd been able to form an actual sentence, so I couldn't explain why it would just... not be angsty for him to die then, nor would it make any sense.

OH! And my biggest question in the world right now... AL! DUDE! How the heck did you end up with Ed? Because... dude... last time I checked Ed was flying away and Roy was holding you back. Some sort of alchemical gollem there or something? Because... umm... you jump really well otherwise. And what was Roy doing trying to hold him back anyway, aside from obeying Ed's wishes (and when the eff did he ever do that before?) Hmmm. Need translation.

Oh, and that brings me to my biggest complaint about the movie. And no, it's not that Roy didn't die. I'm happy with him now. But darnit, when he was being all angsty and maimed, I wanted him out of his misery. TOO MANY PEOPLE DIED! And they all died within like, fifteen minutes of each other. There was no time for it to sink in. Freaking SIG is the only one left of Izumi's family for goodness sakes! And... to kill Wrath like that. Whoa. That was just... crazy. The poor kid! All that blood! And Hohenheim, too! Super-bloody! And still annoyingly calm and accepting, but I guess you get like that after like, 200 years. And Hei! Just... WHAM! I didn't even catch that it'd happened! (And it still makes me sad!) There were so many people keeling over left and right that for a few moments I thought Armstrong'd been squished, and I didn't even put it past the movie that Hughes might have shot Ed! Just... wow. So much random angst that it'll take me quite a while to catch up on all of it.

But the best part for me, character-wise? Since you know exactly who I was watching the entire time, since I wasn't going to understand much else. The end... oooh. I'm pretty sure Hughes got more screentime than Roy, by the way. But... awww! There's a very happy part of my inner fangirl right now when I think about that last scene with Hughes and Gracia. Because he's just not Hughes until that scene. But... lurking around the corner... then he smiles and finally the expression is Hughes. Amestrian Hughes. And he's almost sort of actually back without any sort of special deus ex machina or human transmutation or extra angst or anything. It makes me so, every so very happy. Almost the point of the entire movie for me (for me, though. Probably not for many other people). That, and Ed and Al are back together. When I think about it, it wouldn't have worked for them to be back in Amestris, since alchemy would've continued to screw things up for them. They can be happy with the gypsies in Germany now, and I will be happy for them. And Hughes and Gracia! Heeeee!

Oh, and one more thing... I'VE BEEN MISSING HALF OF MY OTP SINCE EPISODE 25, NOW OTHER PEOPLE HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT, TOO! BWAHAHAHA! I'll admit the outburst was a little unnecessary, considering the amount of fun the elricest-types will be able to have, but... ooh well! And the last thing we need are actual pairing wars but... siiigh, I've got to worry about Royai, too.. Hehe. Awww, Hughes! I still love you, even if you were briefly a Nazi and sort of actually evil for a while, too. You redeemed yourself. And awwww! So many thing resolved strangely. And so... bittersweetly (if that can be a real word for now), since it only happened in our world. But... Hughes and Gracia, heck, Scar and... Cheryl. Hee. All right... done. Mostly.

I am such a total fangirl! It's even scaring me.

So... there you have it. My disjointed thoughts on the movie. Whoa.
