[Semi-GIP, yay. Lookies! Hitchhiker's joke! ... I am such a dork. And look at all these public posts!]

However, in the realm of dorkitude I'm feeling woefully inadequate. And you know what? I don't mind. I don't know Klingon, and I didn't study the LotR maps, but somehow I'm still able to connect with the problematic stereotypes against creativity that are brought up in the reading I have for my Tolkien class. You know what's weird? Really, über, super-weird? I really love the readings I have for two of the three classes I'm in right now. The stuff for CritPers is all about Poe and Barnum: two amazingly ridiculous creatures of the mid 1800s, whose lives I am now totally entranced by. Actually, I'm more entranced by the national mindset that allowed for and accepted so many strange hoaxes (the Balloon-Hoax is the single most freaking-boring hoax ever. Darn you, Poe!). And I'm wondering if this is somehow connected to the sort of escapism that's looked down upon anymore in fantasy and whatnot. (Another reason for me to blame Econ for everything that's wrong! Freaking cost-benefit analysis and capitalistic concentrations!) Yes, I'm alluding here to things that you probably haven't read because, well, you wouldn't be reading these things unless you were in my classes. Which you aren't. So... er... I'd give links, but they're all e-reserve and naturally you can't see them unless you're here, anyway. Nya.

(Aaand I just spent a half-hour on the discussion forums. I brought up fanfiction, of all things, so I imagine I have completely discredited myself in my first post. Bwahahaha. No, really, I swear I brought it up in a valid context, because in the reading there was this bit about plotless romance and hollow creativity, and the connection is just there, darnit).

Mmmm, the shuffle function is so full of delicious late-90s weird music.
