Several things, because though it's Friday, I had way too much sleep between yesterday and today to nap during the afternoon like I usually do. First off, here is a delightful commercial for venerial diseases and a comic about writing history. (Just in case you guys aren't following Neil Gaiman's blog or Cat and Girl as closely as you should. Tsk tsk.)

I finally came across the Flaming Lips' new album last night. I've gotten about halfway through listening to it, and I'm not entirely sure what I think of it. So far, it's not nearly as good as Yoshimi, but that album has One More Robot on it. That'd make... well, I can't think of a really bad album off hand, but think of a really bad album, and it'd make that better. Anyway, it's a lot more... guitar-heavy than Yoshimi, but at the same time, it doesn't quite feel like their earlier stuff, either. In fact, some of it's definitely got me thinking of Queen. Which is just bizarre. And also why I'm keeping back judgement for a bit. The video for the Yeah Yeah Yeah Song is... rather interesting. The album might grow on me. Afterall, I somehow completely ignored the fact that Andrew Bird was awesome for quite some time, even though I had two perfect examples on my playlist.

I also pre-ordered the new Guster album. I have no idea what to expect (and I prefer it that way. Keep it Together was such a lovely surprise, even though I was terrified because Brian switched to using sticks and that was an affront to everything that made Lost and Gone Forever special to me). But I mean, it's Guster. And since I was fast on jumping on the pre-order, I might even get a signed copy. Plus it'll be a lovely surprise when it arrives at the end of June, because by then I will have forgotten I ordered it.

On an almost random note, I've decided that, though The Hour of the Bewilderbeast is a cooler title, About a Boy is a better album. Or at least catchier and more accessible. Which, in my superficial appreciation of music, is often what counts. (Yay, Badly Drawn Boy.)

Ah, and thanks to the evil of last.fm recommendations, I'm trying to search out music by P:ano. Can I find any? No! (Well, aside from streaming it on last.fm.) Which is a shame, because they've tickled my interest now, but not quite to the point where I'd buy their CD. (After all, I've already got a list a mile long. Nevermind that there's at least one CD on there I'm buying for the sake of one song (though only because I haven't heard the rest). But it's Mike Doughty, and now that I've gotten over my annoyance at Mr Excitement (on TMBG's Mink Car, where it stands out so much it's almost automatically bad), my nostalgia for Soul Coughing is great. (And now that I'm thinking of this, I start to wonder what happened to my copy of the (much better) B-side Doughty song from then, Your Mom's Alright. I remember singing along to that on the drive back home from one of our many post-game pizza outings in high school.))

It's funny... spring is inevitably when I sit down and gather up all kinds of music and start ruminating on it. I think it's because it's properly concert season. I can still sense concert season, even when I have no one to go with me. Speaking of... Any volunteers for Lollapalooza yet? Because I am serious about that. (And there's a cheap hostel that's almost right across the street from where it's going to be. We could totally stay there for cheap, and it'd be fun. As long as everyone else hasn't already had the same idea.)

You know, I realized not too long ago that there are probably less than 20 entries in the entire history of this journal that don't have some sort of parenthetical rambling in them. And it's gotten worse lately. (Maybe I should seek help.)
