So, today was spent doing pretty much nothing but class work. I have a feeling most of my Sundays are going to be like this. I got up around 11:30, went to the screening for my film class, had dinner, and came back and read for like, three hours (and didn't even pass out like I usually do!). Pretty boring day, hmm?
That pretty much just leaves me the films to talk about. It seems that, for right now, the course has something for early French films. Which I don't really mind too much, save for Fog Line. Which was sort of like watching paint dry (though it may not have been French...). Except it'd be just as accurate to say it was like watching fog clear. For about fifteen minutes. Most of that time is spent wondering what is making the four lines that are across the screen the entire time... because that's about the only thing to wonder about. (Well, and if the one main tree in the background is Godzilla.) Then there was Les Vampires, which amused me because it was the first episode of an early French silent serial, and the professor had to translate the... is there a technical term for the word-screens in silent films? There must be. I should look that up. Anyway, he had to shout out translations at us, and for some reason I took it upon myself to attempt to translate faster for
solitaryjane. My French is rusty already, I'd better make sure I get the competency out of the way this quarter before I get any worse. Er, anyway, the shouted translations amused me, because it's fairly similar to how the silent films were actually watched when they were shown, since some people in the theatre couldn't read the titles. Only there was more shouting. I wasn't about to start shouting at the screen, though. (Even when I noticed that the villain was a ninja.) That's probably a faux pas in film class. Ah, and finally, we watched Playtime. Which was... well, you know, at times it reminded me of Tampopo for some reason, and I'm pretty sure that was because it was sort of crazy and I didn't really understand why these bizarre things were happening. It was actually fun to watch, if you don't mind being mildly confused for about two hours or so, and there were many parts that were quite amusing. It had a nice sort of... I guess I'd call it an understated slapstick kind of thing, though that's not quite right either.
And now... since I've been reading for three hours and going to study breaks and trying to make sure I have at least one roomie for next year, I've got bunnies out the wazoo. With no time to write them, of course. Because that's the only time writing bunnies attack. And
omg_alchemist is killing me with angst. It's crushing me! Hughes will be beginning operation Save IC!Movie!Al From More Angst soon... er, except he's angsting himself over the whole trial thing. And I'm pretty sure at this point you can't save any of those Eds and Als from angst. Yay! Crack is totally supposed to work like this! Hehehe.
