Dear Public Library,

I know you are out of money, my mom works for you. However, if you could have opened the library for about five minutes yesterday, that would have been great. I know it's my own stupid fault for not checking out the third book in a trilogy with the other two. But I wasn't expecting to finish so fast, honest! And it's totally not fair that today's the fourth of July and you're still not open. I'm going to cry. Do you see what you've done?

- A Weeping Hippo

Dear Philip Pullman,

I officially hate you! I hate you! How dare you make the Subtle Knife so good about four chapters in?! Then I can't put it down and I have to finish it after the library's closed so I have to wait three days to get the last book! And all the tiny little in-joke type things, and the random pseudo-physics and alternate worlds, and... And...And then.. and then I spoil everything )CURSE YOU, BBC!!! (Radio play... exists. I am dying here. DYING!!!!) They're also making a movie. It's a thorough shame I'm not properly British, because I'd never get cast in it. Maybe they need an odd-jobs girl. Them and the live-action Eva movie. And the guys out west that are building commercial spacecraft. And maybe the guy in Chicago that makes paper sushi on a special inkjet printer. Darnit... I wonder if Barnes and Noble is open today.

How dare you!
(no, actually I rather love you for this, it was the right thing to do),

... in other news... things at the theatre have been oddly slow. I haven't worked more than one night shift since I've been back, though, and days are usually slow. Especially weekdays. From what I've heard it hasn't been that bad. The little guy who cussed us all out when War of the Worlds opened still takes the cake for weekly nutcase. There was a family yesterday that called me I should put "Foodservice Preparation Expert" (emphasis theirs) on my resume. Because I buttered their popcorn well. It made me laugh. And also made me realize that, even though third time's a charm, perhaps I should retire from the whole popcorn business after this summer. Plus about 75% of the rest of our staff graduated from high school this summer and will be leaving in August. It's not going to be fun over winter break if we've got a lot of new people, and I'll miss the old ones a lot. We've already got one that manages to confuse me by calling everything by its wrong name and never understanding what I'm telling her to do. She somehow thought I was talking about popcorn when I said "pop nozzles." Errr.

Oh, and Happy Fourth of July. (Shame it doesn't mean day off for me).
