In less than 24 hours, I will have finished my calculus exam. I will basically be on spring break. Incidentally, I will also have pretty much nothing to do. That's going to be such a nice feeling. Right now though, what I need to do is force myself to write my final review for drama so I can e-mail it to my professor. It's due sometime today... I just have no idea what I'm going to say about it. Eep! I knew I shouldn't have gone to the show that my instructor was in! Ohh, but it was fun! Drat. OK, what I'll do instead of straight-out writing the review is sit here and talk about it until I figure out what I should say about it. What do you say about a rather surreal umm... semi-umm... my capacity for artistic eras is shot here... umm.. A lot like John Cage, only with performance rather than "music" but then really not like that at all because at least most of it doesn't rely on the audience, just bits of it. But the way it's set up, you immediately get a feel for the audience's personality. The first play that was called out was "I got your truck right here, mother f....r," followed by Deja Porno, then "The President's an A..hole" Immediately political, profane, and perverse (three words that can also be used to describe every dinner conversation here). At least it didn't pretend not to be political. And when it was political, it wasn't horribly political, it was very open about the views being just opinions, mostly because there never were characters, they were people. And since they write the plays every week, you have to expect some political content, because the whole thing is basically living right now. Ok, so the surrealist plays were my favourites, and really stuck in my mind. Like "This Chick Don't Dance" where they just played music and threw a frozen chicken across the stage. Greatness! Don't play with your utensils was like the opposite of the Matrix sequels (in so many ways). And the Rolling Chair Ballet was also fun, and the ritual chanting of ingredients (especially when they hit the floor). The first thing that bothered me was the timer. During some of the slower plays, it was a constant distraction. However, it really forced you to have an opinion on all of them. If you didn't like it, you wanted it to be over quickly. Another thing that bothered me was the first audience-member participation, where the guy sitting there was trying to be funny. But that's no fault of anyone's but his, really. The best way to get the audience "into" the show was The Characters in my Movie, where everyone went around and assigned random traits to people in the audience. You really noticed the other audience members as a part of the plays, too. The whole room was a constant part of the production. It's got to be tough to be constantly aware of your audience like that... you know immediately if something isn't going well. You don't really have to worry about losing the crowd though, because it's a rather self-selecting audience and the pace changes so quickly people can jump back in right away.
Drat... that is so nowhere near a page. Of course, I could flesh it out easily enough. And I like that metaphor about the Matrix. Hehehe. Now, sometime around three today I will have turned in this blasted review, and I will be working on my challenge problems for calculus. That is my goal. I will reach it! Actually, I feel like it would be a good idea to turn in this final review before 1:30, but we'll see if that actually happens or not. Well, I'd better go get back to work, whether it be my review, calc, or cleaning/packing. Woo end of the quarter!
Oh, and it freakin' snowed here last night. March has got things all backwards. I wouldn't mind at all if it hadn't been sixty like, a week and a half or so ago. Gah!
